Bill: Take Hillary to the Outer Banks

Fri May 09, 2008 at 10:07:09 AM PDT

We all know it's time.  She's put up a brave - even terrifying - fight to secure the nomination, and now she has lost.

This passage from Bill Clinton's My Life, page 183, says what needs to happen now:

I was worried about how exhausted she was - she was thinner than I had ever seen her, so thin her lovely but large head seemed to be too big for her body. . . .

Over the weekend I took her away for some rest and relaxation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  We had a great time together and I was beginning to think Hillary might actually join me in Arkansas when the inquiry was finished.

All that has changed is the context, Bill.  She is exhausted. Take her away to the infinite blending of sky, sand and sea, and point her once again toward a future different than the present where she can make a contribution in another role than the one she has pursued.

Being close to water brings a perspective that makes our other problems, however great, appear less daunting.  As Hillary reorients toward a future that does not include the presidency of the United States of America, her husband can help her.  He can do what he did once before - take her away to where her spirit can bond with his, and they can jointly determine on a life together in a pattern different than the past.

Bill:  You'd be doing her and yourself a favour.  And the rest of us too.
