The Bushistas are editing reality again. Today the Pentagon publishes The China Military Power Report which it owed to Congress in March. The administration is hoping that putting it out on a Friday before a holiday weekend will slip it under the radar.
It shouldn't for two reasons. First, the report makes clear we are losing superiority to the Chinese military at a blistering pace. Second, Pentagon leaks accompanying the report say it was watered down by the White House, NSC, State Department and DNI because they don't want the reality of American weakness publicised and because they are already afraid of antagonising China.
Politicising intelligence? No way!
The Chinese have read up on military strategy and identified American weakness with stunning accuracy:
- Dependence on debt finance for our massive, unsustainable military and consumer spending;
- Dependence on satellites for guiding all the hardware floating around the seas and in silos;
- Dependence on oil from a few states who might rather deal with China long term.
They hold us hostage with our debt and oil addiction, and threaten to blow our brains out with a shot to our satellites.
